Hair New Era

Do you have those days too? When you feel heavy, your legs are like lead and it's just exhausting to go through the day? I have a day like this today, and it drives me nuts. It reminds me very much of the time before my surgery, and I really don't want to go there again. I'm just plain tired, and I think I will give in and hang out in the hammock for 30 minutes. Hopefully, my energy will come back then. Not very exciting things on the horizon though - have to pick up Kaefer from school and then it's straight to the dentist for her appointment. Which for me means waiting... What do you usually do when you have to wait somewhere? I read a lot, and I hope I can do that this afternoon.

I want to share a Halloween card with you that I recently listed in my Etsy shop:


Usually I'm not a big fan of skulls and skeletons, but when I saw some scrapbook paper covered with these goofy looking skulls I couldn't resist. Making the card was mega-easy, and I don't know why exactly I like this one so very much. Perhaps because the skulls look so goofy and funny, not a bit scary. I was glad that I had this small wooden coffin and the skeletal hand to use as photo props - I enjoy putting some "spice" into my pictures like this. Taking photos of my items for Etsy is a completely new thing for me, and I enjoy learning about how to take pictures of my items to get people wanting to look at them. Thrift stores and yard sales are perfect places for finding photo props.

Okay, I'm going to the hammock now, hoping that Geeda hangs out there already and keeps me company.

Hello dear WOYWWers, yes, it's me, obviously not a regular anymore. I haven't been here for the last few weeks (two? three? even more?). The reason is simple - I've set up and opened my Etsy shop and that obviously took all my energy. It's a quite fascinating adventure, pretty much work is involved, but I expected that and really like it. However, I did not expect to sell anything in the first few months, and I already sold a mixed media painting and one of the small journals! That came as a surprise - I am very happy about and deeply thankful for it.

But you're not here to hear me ramble but to see what's on my worktable - it's this:


I'm working on another girl, a little Halloween witch this time. She will get green hair and a typical witch's hat. Somehow I want to include a cat and perhaps an owl - or a crow. I'm thinking of working more on the background and to make it a little more "halloweenish".

Halloween is my favorite holiday. I love its quirkiness, the craziness, of course the ORANGE, the bats, spiders and ghosts. This is the first time that I attempted a Halloween themed mixed media painting. I was thinking of glittery ghosts who dance in the night. The glitter is really hard to see in this scan, but anyway, here it is - finished in a couple of days:

I was never really excited for Halloween but for some reason got really into it last year! Costumes are kind of expensive - I feel like $40+ for an outfit I'm only going to use once or twice max is a lot! - but it's really fun dressing up! Last year I was a pirate and this year I was Robin (from Batman). The outfit costs $49.99 originally but there was a little hole in the dress near the neckline that wasn't even noticeable but the manager at Party City gave me 20% off! Then when I was checking out, he found out the mask was missing and gave mean extra 5% off so I got it for like $35! Since I didn't have a mask I drew it on myself! Idk if you can tell but it looked really ghetto up close! haha I drew the outline with my Urban Decay 24/7 Liner in Zero and filled it in with MAC's Blacktrack Fluidline and set it with MAC Carbon Eyeshadow. I think should've used grease paint because it took me FOREVER to get it dark and I wasn't even satisfied when I left the house! I ended up hitting up downtown with a few of my friends but I was in a rush! I wish I took head shots but hopefully you can see it good in these pics.



I wish I took more pictures but towards the end of the night I took pictures with random people LOL! I don't know any of these guys! I thought this UPS man was SO funny! You know most of the girls dressed up slutty but I loved seeing the guys because they can get so creative! I saw one guy dressed up as a Chilean Miner & even a group of people dressed up as Captain Planet! There was just so many things going on that I forgot to take pictures. Did you guys do anything fun for Halloween?

It's been some time since I participated in any challenges. But when Louise at Kard Krazy's newest Tag Tuesday challenge was "black and orange" I knew that I had to make a tag. I got the idea for the shape from Lou and Mel at Scrap-ology.


I had so much fun with this tag that I decided to make more and give them to my guests at our upcoming Halloween party. Here's an entire coffin full of bats and skulls.

I hope you're all having a good week and enjoy this Wednesday's snoop around the world onto other people's workspaces. If you don't have a clue what I'm talking about, hop on over to the lovely Julia of Stamping Ground to get the whole picture.

I've also started working on one of the papermache pumpkins that were sitting on my table last Wednesday. I wanted to decoupage both, but after I had started with the first one I've decided to do something else with number two. What a pain!!! Currently the pumpkin looks like this:

It seems that I'm sticking to the "Halloween Cats" theme this week since I'm currently designing my card-making class of the same name that will run in October.

When I checked what this week's challenge at the Tuesday Taggers will be, I found out its theme is "Diamonds are Forever". Now - how well do diamond shapes work with Halloween? They seem to be made for each other.

I absolutely love the cat with a hat stamp by Rusty Pickle. Years ago they also had scrapbook paper with the same cat - you can see it here. I bought tons of it that time and saved it over the years. I'm still not very generous with it! Do you happen to have art supplies that you only use VERY sparingly, like favorite papers?

Wow - since I had a more than weird day yesterday, I forgot about Julia's WOYWW... oh boy, so this will be a short one today!

Last week I only got around a few desks, I hope to visit more this week, but it might take right into the weekend.


In October I'll teach a Halloween card making class and I started to prepare for this. The theme is "Halloween Cats" and I just dumped all my stamps and papers that would fit this theme on my desk . I already designed the first card, the second is almost done... will show them after the class because I can't do that before!

Start with the ringlets like in the base hair post below and finger comb them out and spray them. Let them dry. I put the headband...Snow White's is red. Make sure you remember that. On a normal day I would probably stop here because I love this. However, we are trying to be Snow White, so we keep on going.

Disclaimer: Animated girls have unreal, freakishly thick hair. I would love to have animated, plastic hair that never messes up.


Start with dry hair. Part with the natural part. I also curled the ends.


Part the hair from the part to the ear. Temporarily put it in an elastic, just to keep it out of the way.




Now, back comb the hair, the boofier the better.



Now, I just took a clip and twisted it up...just for a minute. Take a length of ribbon and put it on the hair that is down just before the boof. Tie it at the base of the hair.
