In light of the 84th Annual Academy Awards last Sunday, one of the highlights of the entire event is looking at all the beautiful celebrity hairstyles.  From well defined, sculpted loose curls, brushed-out curls and sleek curly hair up do’s, these looks were captivating as Hollywood’s celebrities walked the red carpet this year. Romantic yet laid back curly hairstyles can be easily accomplished by loose curls that are gathered up into a half up/half down hairstyle, just like Melissa McCarthy, who opted for a simple but glamourous look.

Follow these steps to re- create Melissa McCarthy’s Oscar curls for your own evening of elegance using the Curly Hair Solutions™ curly hair product line:
 
Step 1: After washing, conditioning and detangling your hair, apply Curl Keeper™ from root to tips in your hair and scrunch well. You may add in some gel if you have a looser curl and want to ensure extra hold for the night.

Step 2: For faster drying time, diffuse the hair while continuing to scrunch your curls/waves into an “S” formation until the hair is dry. Once dry, to create added volume, flip your head over and shake out your curls using your hands. Be careful not to finger comb too much as you may lose curl definition.

Step 3: Gather your hair in a loose ponytail located just above the nape of your neck. You can take a loose strand of the ponytail and wrap it around the elastic and bobby pin it so it’s not visible.

Many people do not have enough time in the morning to style their hair to perfection. Curly heads know how important it is to be able to style their hair when short of time. Styling curly hair is the first critical preparation stage on which to achieve your desired curly hairstyle. Spending a few extra minutes in this stage will ensure your look will last longer. Using high heated appliances such as curling irons or hot rollers to create your curls, you will notice more frizz, especially in humidity and when perspiring. Achieving your curls through the styling and drying process from wet to dry you will have more control over the frizz in all weather conditions and activity.

Styling products for curly hair that contain alcohol or oils may help speed up drying time but comes with the cost of damaging the hair. The use of alcohol in curly hair products will dry out the hair and strip away necessary moisture. Products that contain oil will create a cosmetic coating on the hair which will eventually make your curls unmanageable.


There are many different techniques that can be applied to each curl type. It’s important to note which process will reduce styling and drying time and still give you a gorgeous frizz-free curly hairstyle. The second stage is styling the hair and beginning the drying process. During the drying process curls will shrink and you will lose length and volume. If you are in a hurry you may use a diffuser to speed up drying time, but still allow your curls to surface dry before doing so. Once the hair is dry, stage three begins and allows you to create the final look by playing with your curls, giving you fullness.
