1. Living in L.A., I don’t know how many times I’ve seen a chic stumbling in heels she can’t walk in wearing a Melrose original that another chic 3 blocks up is also wearing. It’s like an epidemic here on the West. And granted our weather is much nicer than the rest of the U.S., I just don’t see that as an excuse to have no originality and willingly become the 3rd triplet of the evening wearing the same fit 2 other chics – in the club - are wearing.
Now the sameness factor is only a minute issue when speaking of L.A. fashion, the first epidemic is the How tight can this go disease. Now don’t get me wrong, I’ve had my day wearing the tight of the tight – American Apparel – but at a certain age that ‘ish has to GO! Women not understanding their body shapes, which will be discussed in the upcoming ebook – look out for that – step out of their houses wearing colored saran wrap wrapped around mom’s freshly baked cellulite and pulge muffins. Just because the dress was cute in the window on a size 6 mannequinn should be a tell-tale sign, this is NOT the item for you. Also, women without curves, just say no. I understand thin women are able to wear whatever they want because we live in a society that is JUST now starting to accept there are women larger than a size 8 walking around these streets, but that doesn’t justify how a tight dress looks on you when you have nothing growing from your body to help fill it out.
This is not a diss post, this is a dish post, on real stuff. The day of the ultra-tight, bad quality attire has come to a close. The need for individuality and body type style is screaming loud-and-clear come get me. Just because it’s tight, does not mean it’s right, that goes for the 110lb. and the 280 lb. It’s ok to wear clothes that fit, but please take into consideration your skin, veins and muscles, as clothes these days aren’t made to fit just your skeleton.

A major part of being a star entrepreneur is taking care of your biggest asset…YOU!
So if you’ve taken the steps to eat better and get more exercise but you’ve never considered the state of your closet or personal style, then you haven’t really taken a look at the big picture in its entirety. When you look good you feel good, and as the CEO of making your dreams come true inc., it’s important that you feel good. A great outfit can do wonders to your self-esteem and the way you carry yourself. It will make you feel more alive and more in control.

Now, I know that one of the biggest perks about working from home, is that we have the luxury to work from our bed and sometimes even in our underwear, if we wanted. On a cold rainy day, I’m all for that, but to make it a part of your daily routine will definitely decrease your energy level and leave you feeling blah in no time.

If you've been paying any attention to the trends of Spring/Summer 2011, I'm sure you've gathered Neutrals, 70's, lace and metallics are just a few of the looks you'll be seeing too much of on your local streets and in clubs in your neighborhood during the coming hotter months. And as many of you also may already know, trends don't stop at clothes, they slither right on into hairstyles, accessories, bags and shoes. My friend recently requested a post about sunglasses for the summer. The following includes my take on finding the right pair for you.
[top row] Decorated Sunglasses are huge this season; they give much character to the face. However, unless you're going to a really retro event, or retro is just your everyday style, I wouldn't invest too much money in a pair of these #onlywearforoneseason trend poppers.
[bottom row] The round rounds are also big. These locs are often credited to the late John Lennon in the 70's due to his donning of the round rounds and making them a popular must-have way back then. Now I find these to be more practical, however, please beware! You MUST know your face shape before purchasing. Yes, they're fun, yes, they can be cute on the right face but everyone does not have the right face for these bottle tops. If you do choose to move forward, pick a color you will be able to wear in 2012, 2013 and 2027. When shopping in trends its important to pick a style, color, shape that will last longer than the trend's listed tenure on style.com
The last sunglasses trend I will cover today are the cat eye frames. This style was made popular by Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany's and designers have decided to bring them back. This style works best for reverse triangle-shaped faces; there are two types of cat designs: very sharp and less defined. I prefer the less defined, because, I don't have an upside down triangular face. I prefer the two-tone locs photo'ed below, that's more of my speed but like I say, "to each her own!"
The moral of this post was to shed some light on what's "in" this season and what to look for when shopping sunglass trends. But, let me say this, as I'm getting more seasoned in age and wisdom, my suggestion is to buy classic. Sure, it's fun to indulge in trend from time-to-time, however, please don't spend your whole paycheck or tax return on all the latest defined popular picks you saw or read about in a magazine or on a website. The moral to truly looking and feeling good about yourself, is to really KNOW yourself inside and out and realize what you've been given and finding items out in the world that will help you accentuate the assets you have. The goal is to pump up what you're proud of and camouflage what you're not, {notice how I didn't say replace, cut off, suck out, or file down.} If you're really looking to get a pair of sun-blockers that you will be able to wear for years and years to come, please, Don't Go Trend! Research your face shape, and find all the styles that enhance your natural beauty. Classic goes a long way and since the overall goal is to always be more than happy with a purchase, its imperative you take the time to find what really works..... for you!

One of the trends I do like are the square frames. I think it's important to note: I like them because they work well with my face shape. The key to choosing the right frame is paying close attention to the size and proportion on YOUR face. Not the lady in the picture, Not the celebrity you saw wearing them in US Mag., on YOUR face because YOU are the only one who will be stuck with a pair of glasses that make you look like Left Eye (R.I.P.) with the yellow glasses in the What About Your Friends video. The first thing he dropped on me was you can often tell how far your life and career will go based on the five people you spend the most time with so I had to really sit back and really marinate on that. I cannot say that I love pencil skirts; it is widely documented on the Internet that I think pencil skirts are the most deceptive articles of clothing that women wear. However, they are very versatile and can be worn in various different venues, so I’ll have to accept that there will be some pencil skirts around me … everyday. A pencil skirt is a great tool, that I will admit. It’s perfect for going out, or going to work, however, probably not the most comfortable clothing for home.
I’m not concerned with when I’m going out on the town, I’m probably not going to get fooled by too many pencil skirts. There’s going to be some authentic pencil skirt wearers in there, so a girl looking to trick a guy into thinking she’s got super long legs and a fatty are slim. Let it be known that a woman should use her pencil skirt as an accent, but not as a concealer.
My main issue with pencil skirts is men are not fashionistas; we’re just not going to be able to catch every trick that a woman tries to pull on us, we’ll need help. A good pencil skirt makes your body look longer, makes your butt looked bigger, and it even makes your posture seem proper. The majority of men are getting fooled by women who are wearing their pencil skirt to work. Personally, there have been many mornings when I’ve been on the train and I look up and see a woman in a pencil skirt and say to myself, “Wow, for how skinny she is, she’s got a nice shape down there.” After I examine the scene some more I realize that she’s actually really skinny, but she’s wearing a pencil skirt. Same can happen with a girl who is a little overweight, because the pencil skirt brings your legs together and pushes everything into one place, it may look like she’s got an hour glass figure. In reality, when she takes off that pencil skirt, it-all-falls-down. #ohhboy.
How does a man become a fashionista? Attention to detail. In my opinion, I’ve become quite good at spotting those people who are using their pencil skirt as a crutch, by examining the oft times not gazed upon features of the dress. Here are a few areas to take note of:
(1) If she wants the skirt to make her butt to appear larger and more shapely she’s going to have to tuck her shirt in. It’s also going to have a high waist to push the top down and the bottom up. Therefore, her stomach should be covered by the skirt; look in this region to see if she’s packing a few extra pounds than expected, if so, that skirt is doing the most.

With all that said, I have seen pencil skirts look awesome on the right body. I’ve been fooled by a pencil skirt and grown to despise the woman and I don’t even know if she’s a nice girl or not. I think the best way to wear a pencil skirt is to let it work within its limits. Make sure it fits, make sure it reaches just above your knees, and doesn’t have any extra contouring elastic. This will ensure a natural look that even if your body isn’t perfect, it accentuates your best features perfectly. I personally don’t like the pencil skirt in the club, it doesn’t make sense, it’s not a cocktail dress and you cannot dance in it. (Not for nothing, if you have your going out heels on, you’re asking for trouble, you can barely walk in the heels, let alone the skirt.) I like a pencil skirt in a professional setting in a conservative color: black, blue or khaki, not red. As much as I hate pencil skirts, I actually like them, I just hate being a sucker for fashion.

'Tis the season to be stylish. The weather is cold, the wind is blowing and now's the time to show off all the layers, colors and textures to the world. The parties are stacking and the drink nights are booming... but ever think 'what about those who aren't so fortunate?' There are tons of people (& animals) who have no idea who James Perse is, Lanvin or that a sample sale comes once a year. There are tons of people in the world who are suffering so much and we can't take the time out to realize this as we're running through stores and open warehouses trying to find our size in the perfect dress or pant. This part of the year, especially, all those who are fortunate should really reflect and give back to those who have not been so "lucky." There are a million ways one can give back... and it doesn't matter with whom you share your "luck", just make sure that you do.
The only way to happiness is by bringing joy to others and making others happy!

Yes! Yes! Yes! In a search to find (yet) another photo of Desiree (Rogers) I stumbled across the fashion delegate. Its a fashion site like the thousands of others out there but not really. I guess what caught me was their substantial amount of fashion in politics postings. I appreciate how fashion has now become a recognized aspect for women in politics. Love it and Thought I'd share.
