Black Models of 1973 Fashion Show Honored
Author: lilisokeyThe Versailles models of 1973 were honored this week at the Huffington Post Game Changers Awards last night. Why is this important and who are the Versailles models, you ask?
The 11 African-Americans models were part of the legendary Grand Divertissement à Versailles fashion show held in 1973 at the Palace of Versailles to raise money for its restoration. It featured 5 American designers (Halston, Oscar de la Renta, Bill Blass, Anne Klein, and African-American designer Stephen Burrows) and 5 French designers including Yves Saint Laurent, Christian Dior’s head designer Marc Bohan, Hubert de Givenchy, Emanuel Ungaro and Pierre Cardin.
Back then, it was rare to see Black women modeling on the catwalk but the American designers decided to take advantage of the international spotlight and make a statement about diversity. They hired 11 Black models to walk their shows, while the French used not a single one.

That Sweater at the MLK Jr. Dedication
Author: lilisokeyCan we just take a moment to marvel over the simple but FABULOUS cardigan Mrs. Obama wore to the MLK Jr. Dedication in Washington D.C. this past weekend. President Obama and family took a tour on the mall before making his unforgettable speech addressing current affairs and how many things have and haven't no changed from 50 years ago when Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. worked tirelessly with others to create a long-lasting change for the under-served people in this country.
I understand the sentiment of this day, and I am very proud of the positive images that spread across the world of African Americans and our contributions and importance in the making, maintaining and the future of this country, but what I really understand is this magnificent cardigan! Thank You Thank You Thank You!
And to Dr. King, THANK YOU for all that you gave, sacrificed, fought for, endured, and changed. Your legacy is permanent in the lives of many and generations to come!
THANK YOU!

I've also started a blog to document my transition in moving from City of Angels to the Queen City.
You can check out and FOLLOW my new life blog, Charlotte Transplant and see what shananigans and lively affairs I get into from now and throughout my time in Charlotte, NC.

It's here!!!! Closet Collection Int'l is HEEEEERE!
Author: lilisokeyCloset Collection Int'l is finally here. But, you may be asking yourself what IS CCInt'l.
Closet Collection Int'l is a closet photo-indexing service that allows women to view their closets online at anytime from anywhere in the world. It helps with organization, shopping, styling, purging and planning. It's a tool that allows women to help balance their already hectic lives in a way that's never before been done.
CCInt'l also allows women to sell the items they no longer wish to keep and try to make profit from it AND/OR donate the items to local non-profits working to help low-income and disadvantaged women within the Los Angeles area.
This upcoming Friday, July 8th CCInt'l will be hosting a launch reception in conjunction with The Red Bag Boutique in Culver City from 5pm - 8 pm. Please come on out and help me celebrate the launch of CCInt'l. Your presence would be greatly valued.
For more information on Closet Collection Int'l, please visit the site at http://closetcollectionintl.com or you may email at closetcollectionintl@gmail.com
For a limited time, I am offering a Girlfriend buy one get one closet free package. Contact me for details.

Keri, in the brights of the season... team's been doing it kinda swell lately.
"Here it is, what" Love the cocky tone and simplicity to the overall look
As simple as it seems, the WHITE CARPET is genius.
Somebody tell me I'm not the only one who realizes the SMANG IT dance is in the new Beyonce run the world choreography (towards the end)

Mia Anita linked to the Bubi People of Bioko Island (Equitorial Guinea)
Author: lilisokeyThe most exciting news I've heard all year (and I've heard some pretty exciting things this year) was finding our where my maternal line geographically travels back to the continent of Africa. I had been waiting for weeks to hear this news and it finally came this past Friday.
It is now early Monday morning and this information STILL has not sunk in, as this is information millions of people never knew and will never know. I had friends who are of direct African descent asking me weekly about the results as everyone I had told was anxious. To my surprise, Bioko Island is a place I had NEVER EVER heard of prior to last week. I had heard of Guinea but never Equitorial Guinea and you couldn't pay me to tell you one thing about the Bubi people.
Of course, since last week I've been doing major research and have been exposed to inhumane and savage truths about the treatment and extermination of the Bubi people by the Fang-led government that infiltrated the island and the political system. I've learned just ~40 years ago, about 2/3 of the Bubi population on Bioko Island were beaten to death, tortured, killed, etc. at the hands of a Fang Leader, referred to as Macias Nguema.
I plan to soon visit and bring more awareness about the genocide taking place against the Bubi people. A book I plan to read can be found on www.thebubis.com
Consider this as JUST the beginning of a long journey I am too elated to take... now... for finding more about my paternal side... this should indeed be more than interesting. Stay Tuned!

Frederick Jermaine Carter Lynched in 2010
Author: lilisokeyLynched 10 miles from his home, 26 year-old Frederick Carter was found hanging from a tree in Greenwood, Mississippi on December 3rd of last year. Congress has failed to pass any of the 220 proposed anti-lynching bills and is continuing to ignore such propositions.
This cannot go on any further!

A Rachel Pally kind of morning
Author: lilisokeyWoke up extra early this morning for the Rachel Pally sample sale. I originally intended on arriving about 10:15 or so, however, while lying in bed I received an email from Daily listing it on their site. I then knew, more people will know about this than I need so I immediately hopped up and was out the door.
Good thinking! I was thee very first person in line. LOL Her mom actually let me in a bit early because it was just me. (She was very sweet) There were lots of dresses, tops, sweaters, leggings and what also seemed to be popular was her WHITE LABEL which is synonymous to plus sizes. It was great to see all shades and sizes of women at the same place all able to find something that was in style. Hats off to Rachel for that.
And the extra icing was Rachel was not only there but ringing up orders as well. At no other sample sale have I seen this and I just think it says so much about her, her work ethic and her care for her line. She had family and friends there to support and assist and everyone was extremely NICE AND HELPFUL. I skipped away with 3 dresses all of which I am in love with. I definitely recommend hitting this one up... and THIS WEEKEND, do not wait until next.
