Ma présentation

I did my French presentation today. The subject could be anything as long as it was somehow connected to France, so I chose haute couture.
I think I managed to pull the attention away from the fact that I had almost none of my text by heart and the presentation didn’t fill an entire ten minutes, not even after I stuck this video at the end, by choosing a subject so thoroughly interesting. At least for two people in the room.
When I’d finished the teacher asked why I'd chosen this subject and I explained how amazing I find haute couture, that it’s so much more than just fashion, that it’s art. Then we talked about differences between couture and prêt-a-porter and high street fashion. Then she asked what my favourite fashion house is and I said that when it comes to haute couture, of course Dior is the best with its incredible creations. And that the couture line of Chanel, for example, is too wearable, too simple, almost like normal clothes. Then she revealed that Chanel is in fact her favourite and that she thinks that John Galliano is a crazy person. I said that haute couture is all about original one-of-a-kind pieces and that at least he always keeps things interesting.
Then she turned to the rest of the class who had been sitting quietly this whole time, and asked what their favourite maison de haute couture is. In a tone that suggested that every normal person obviously has one. Some people mumbled something based on the photos I’d shown, and then she jumped to the computer, allowing me to return to my seat.
She showed us the works of her favourite designers Vanessa Bruno and Isabel Marant. And some of the pieces from their collections made her sigh, “Oh! C’est trop belle!” and that she needs to fly to France and buy them immediately. But honestly, I wasn’t that impressed. Still, it was truly an educational lesson!
The next post will be about haute couture. I’ll make a summary of my presentation, in English. You might know all that it includes already, but I sure didn’t, and I really want to show you all these gorgeous outfits I found while researching.
Talking about gorgeous outfits, here are some pictures from the A/W 2010 haute couture shows of Dior and Chanel. Just to prove my earlier point and show you that the teacher isn’t always right.

Christian Dior Couture:
Stunning, right?

Chanel HC:
Beautiful, yes, but boring.
I love the hair and make up, though:
