Spring has sprung!

Via Fairy Tale Diaries

This weekend was lovely. The official start of spring on Saturday did not disappoint; even though I was up north on Cape Cod, we still had absolutely beautiful weather both days of the weekend. I even got to walk on the beach! Hanging with family, eating tons of food, walking in the gorgeous sunshine, reading and relaxing...I am recharged and ready for Monday, despite the rainy forecast. Showers bedamned, flip flops here I come! (And more posts to come, so check back...)

Weird fact #832: World helium shortage

This absolutely knocked me over the head when I read it on Party Perfect the other day - did you know that there is a worldwide helium shortage?? According to an article from USA Today, the world could be out of helium in as few as eight years. So that means my (as yet to exist) children might never see a balloon freely floating or be able to inhale helium from balloon and talk in a weird chipmunk voice?

And think of how the wedding industry would feel. No more of any of this creativity:

Or this:

Or beauties like this:

Is this really going to happen? A world without floating balloons would be a little less happy, don't you think?

Balloons, bell and belle

I don't know what it is about this image, but something about it caught my eye. I found it nestled in with several other images on dress, design & decor, and quickly scanned by it, but then I came back to it. Twice. I think it's the interesting scale of things - that huge paper bell, the goes-on-forever dress on that little woman, and the colorful balloons. Great image from Chris Everard (whose stuff is beautiful - go check it out here).

On a snarky note, is it just me or is that chick's forehead enormous? Oops, did I type that out loud?

Hot air balloons over Paris

"Paris is a Feeling" by Irene Suchocki on Etsy, as seen on You Are My Fave

Is this even real? It seems too lovely to be true, all those colorful hot air balloons floating high over Paris.

This weekend (alternately titled "it's always sunny [crazy] in Philadelphia")

Happy 30th birthday, Shelby!

Dear Holg:
I'm not sure who you are, or how we got your balloon, but thanks for lending it to us for the evening. Everyone at Jim's Steaks (including the guy who had to climb up on the counter drunkenly to retrieve it from the ceiling) really liked the colorful whimsy it added to our trek.
Yours in boisterous Philadelphian celebration,
Rachel

And to Val, who took us in at 2:30am, thanks, glad your bed doesn't smell like cheese steak, and oh my gosh, I still can't believe we saw a runaway horse and carriage the next day.

Whew. I'm still tired from this weekend.
