Random: Natural Hair Shoot ft. Jamal
Author: lilisokey
Remember the handsome Jamal, who was featured as last weeks "Loc'd Man?" Well, I had the pleasure of shooting with him this past weekend. We had a ball! I just wanted to show y'all a set of the pictures we took, the theme was black love x natural hair. My hair was simply pulled back into a puff with twist out bangs and his loc's were twisted. I loved his hair, it made my "I want loc's" itch, itch even more.
Tell me what you think...

GHB Updates x Safi
Author: lilisokeyHey beautifuls, look around. Do you see anything different? I'm sure you've noticed the new layout by now, I hope everyone likes it! I must say, I think it's pretty cute. The graphic designer I worked with did a great job at capturing my vision. Why the change? Well, I guess it was a gift to myself for reaching 1,000,000 blog hits last Thursday! That was EPIC to see and y'all are so awesome for contributing to my blog's success. I just checked my stats again and I am at, 1,017,676. Pretty darn cool! Anyways, that's update 1. I'll be closing the "Bloggin' on a Million" giveaway this Friday at 6pm so if you haven't entered click HERE to do so.
Next up, you see that image above/below? Well I just got Good Hair Button pins made and they will on sale for $5, hopefully by the first week in November. I am so amped to get them too! I will be sticking one on my denim jackets and my school bag.
Guess who's back?! Yup, Safi. I will be having the Safi fall sale ready to launch by the end of the week hopefully. All of the ingredients came, I am just waiting on the packaging. I know y'all are like "it's about time!" I feel the same way. There will only be 2 products offered as of now, your favorite Avocado Shea Butter and a seasonal Pumpkin Hair/Body Pudding! Like most of my batches there will be limited quantities. If the sales do well this fall I will restock accordingly. :)
So, that's about it for updates! Thanks again for all the support, I LOVE Y'ALL. If you want a little more info on the 1 million blog hits, watch the video below.

Photo Shoot Fresh
Author: lilisokey
I am so amped about these pictures, I can't stand it! Y'all know that I when I have my photo sessions either one of two gentleman shoots me; Teck or Dizzy. I actually had the pleasure of shooting with both this week. Dizzy yesterday and Teck today-- EXCITING! Any who, Dizzy is one of my favorite folks and I've been shooting with him since day one. His work has progressed so much since our first shoot and I am so proud to say he's wanted to use me as a "muse" because he's truly an amazing artist. He sent me the pics today and I LOVE them. Of course, I had to share with my natural hair ladies! My hair is wrapped in a turban in these pictures because my natural hair needed a break. I think the turban added some flare though, you tell me...
Click the jump for more.
I had a BALL shooting with Dizzy outside, in the wilderness!
Be sure to follow him on Twitter to get more information about bookings.
I will be sure to post the pictures I took with Teck, whenever I get them back.
In the meantime you can see more pictures on my TUMBLR!

Alex

Random: Interviewed by Wise Curls
Author: lilisokey(Make sure you follow WiseCurl's blog! She has great content.)
Many of you all know that I am mother. I became pregnant at 17 and had my daughter at 18. So, yes, I am a "Teen Mom." Angela, over at WiseCurls.com asked if I'd be willing to share my story with her blog readers, OF COURSE I jumped at the opportunity. Mainly because so many young women who become mothers young, feel like they have no options and that their lives are over. I am living proof that that's false. Now, I in no way, shape or form condone teen pregnancy, WRAP IT UP and use contraception if you are sexually active! Sexual health is important. I know that talking about sex and pregnancy is a touchy subject in America but it's real. I have stated many times that I should have waited before having a child but life has a way of teaching us valuable lessons. So, if you are interested in learning more about me and my journey as a young mom click HERE to read the interview. Enjoy and let me know what you think in the comment box below.

Proud
Author: lilisokeyI love my hair, my nose, my skin, my face, my flaws. You should love yours too.
Be proud. Stay beautiful.
Earlier today I experienced some of the most disrespectful nonsense in my life! I have been debating on speaking on the situation but I think a lot of people may benefit from reading this. Many of you don't know my "story" but to make a long story short I used to be very unsure of myself, insecure and I was not proud of who I was. I was never good enough, not just for other people but for myself. It took me such a long time to embrace who God made me. I hated my hair, my skin, my nose, my figure-- EVERYTHING I was I hated. So rewinding to today, I am proud of who I am, I love my features, I adore my hair and I am pretty darn happy with the woman I am being molded by God to be.
I got on Twitter today and was greeted with a tweet from a COMPLETE stranger saying that I was a "slave looking, ugly, black crow and a nobody in this world b**tch" and that, he (yes, a man was tweeting this) "hates my face and my nose" along with other crazy insanely rude comments, like he "hates the remy weave I am wearing" LOL, and my hair is NOT weaved at the moment. I was stunned, not only because I do not know this individual but because he dedicating so much time and hatred on a person he's never met.
After doing some research, I found out who he was and indeed he is a resident of my county and he went to school with several of my childhood friends. Still confused at his hateful words, I was convinced he had the me mistaken with someone else, until the tweets kept coming. The verbal harassment was RIDICULOUS. I've heard somethings over the years but experiencing this as a 22 year old young woman and mother, I was stunned. It seems that some black people really hate their race. While reading through his timeline I saw that he refers to himself as a "bigot and a racist," he also exclaims how he's so happy to be light skinned and not a "crow" (I have NO IDEA what a crow is, by the way)-- if you are wondering, yes, he is a black man.
Never did I thought I'd be the target of "cyber bullying" as an adult. Especially, since my life is so different now. The things that person said did hit a soft spot with me, I'll be honest. I was teased a lot as a kid and I was also in a verbally/emotionally abusive relationship with the person I have a child with. So some bad memories were brought to the surface, verbal wounds take so much longer to heal that physical ones. I've changed so much over the years, the past year alone my life has evolved and God has truly blessed me. I've grown to love my flaws and accept who I am. These days I'm much calmer, gentler and nicer. I try my best to give and spread love as it was intended. My life and future success is dedicated to my daughter. Tteaching her that it's more to this world than the superficial expectations of beauty and perfection is important to me. With that said, I really try and watch my thoughts and actions carefully even when I am angry or hurt. I am a strong believer that you are what you think and allow in your space, negativity and hatred is NOT allowed in mine.
The point of this post is to tell each and everyone one of you, who have been teased, bullied, picked on, and targeted out of hate; to stay strong and STAND PROUD in yourself. If I wasn't who I was today, I would have taken his hurtful words much harder and it would've shaken my world in a completely different way. Although the hate that was thrown my way did sting a little, I was able to laugh at the ignorance he portrayed PUBLICLY on a social network. Black people hate each other more than other races hate us and that is a shame!
Not everyone is going to love your looks, your hair, your complexion, ect... but as long as the you love them and you're proud of YOU, that's all that matters in the long run.
Let no one steal your joy.
xoxo,
Alex

New Business Cards!
Author: lilisokey
I have been WAITING and WAITING to get these cuties in the mail! When they came yesterday I literally was like a kid at Christmas opening gifts, super excited and anxious to see what my new cards looked it. I was sent a proof from the designer but that did the actual card NO justice. They are so cute and "snazzy," as my mom said. These are my personal business cards, they have my email, blog name, new Etsy store and Twitter name on them. I wanted to get my whole name printed on the card, Alexandra, but it's too long so I settled with Alex.
When I tweeted my new cards EVERYONE wanted to know where I got them. I posted the link ONE time and asked people to favorite it so I didn't have to keep repeating myself. So for those of you who missed that tweet, I purchased these personalized cards HERE on Etsy. I was sent 50 card for $24--being as though they are handmade and designed I think that deal was a great one and I will be using this Etsy seller, "Colette Paperie," from here on out to make my cards. NO MORE VISTAPRINT, these cards have way more flare and personal feel to them! I came across this seller randomly,I was looking for new cards and I just was not feeling Vista Print's bland design choices. Y'all know me, when all else fails, look on Ebay or Etsy. I chose Etsy first because it just seemed a little more logical than Ebay. Voila, Colette Paperie's shop popped up with the most affordable prices and unique designs.
So, if you are looking for a cute, simple and chic calling card or business card check out the above links and look around. I am sure you'll find SOMETHING that catches your eye.

Alex

I had a ball at SunFest today! It was so nice to meet some of my fellow bloggers and blog readers! For my first Safi "on the ground" sale things went well! It was great to see the other vendors too, I saw some FABULOUS hand crafted pieces, jewelry, clothing, food and skin care. My family helped me at my vendor booth; my mom, stepdad, daughter, nana and my close friend Ryan kept me company. I snapped some photos to share with you all, OH and I also had a few products left over, including the new Coil Latter Buttercreme; click here to shop.
