Instead of rain...

...what if your windshield wipers swept over this instead today?

I know it's pouring cats and dogs out here, but wouldn't this cheery rainbow be a welcome sight?

Dutch artist Helmut Smits created this windshield rainbow using acrylic paints like this:

Not just jiggly jello

Summer is here. I feel like I've been waiting forever for it to finally emerge. Now that it has, it's hottttt. (Not complaining, just sayin'...) On a hot, sticky day, who doesn't want something cool and refreshing?

Wouldn't this do it?

Yep, jello is no longer relegated to gross molds or for shots with vodka; this version is very high art, no? Add some Cool Whip et voila - a gorgeous dessert that's low in calories, delicious, cool and arty, too. Pretty smart.

Check out the (seemingly very easy) directions for making this awesome rainbow jello here.

Oh, and, the science aspect is fun too - there are really only blue, yellow and red layers here - the green and orange are illusions (ah, yes, I remember this from kindergarten now...).

Originally spotted on Swiss Miss.

And if you're jonesing for more rainbow treats, check out this gorgeous surprise rainbow cake (which was so popular on the interwebs, the college-student baker was even on Martha recently showing her how to make it!).

Or if you want another great jello idea, check out these fun jello-melons (not as dirty as it sounds).

Have a great weekend!

Happy Friday, y'all! It's absolutely beautiful out today, but we're supposed to get rain allll weekend and into next week. B and I are going out of town this weekend and it looks like we may do some serious standing in the rain, since we're supposed to be tailgating at a Penn State football game tomorrow. Better bust out the wellies! I wish I were wearing an incredible dress like the rainbow one above - isn't it amazing??

Wherever you are and whatever weather you're having, hope your weekend is a good one!

Rainbow trees

I've recently developed the most intense desire to visit Hawaii. I think it would be the best honeymoon locale ever. Watching LOST every week doesn't help squelch this desire either.

I just saw pictures of these incredible rainbow eucalyptus trees from Maui over on Benign Objects and had to share. Aren't they amazing?

I didn't even know trees like this existed. They're absolutely beautiful.

First wish: an engagement. Second wish: two tickets to Maui to see these (and all the other amazing stuff Hawaii has to offer), please!

Rainbow in Your Hand flipbook

Rainbow in Your Hand, a 36-page flipbook by Japanese art director and copywriter Masashi Kawamura, doesn't create an animation on the pages like most flipbooks; instead, it creates the illusion of a 3D rainbow hovering over the pages.

Here are what the individual pages look like:

And here's what they do when flipped:

Amazing!
