YASU's Hairlocking Journey

My hairlocking journey so far. It's almost been 5 years and I am loving it!

Third Time's the Charm

Hey, everyone! I'm blog as Eesha at nappylove.com and I'm excited to rejoin this locked community! I'm growing my third (and hopefully final) set of locs - Sisterlocks this time. My blog chronicles this new journey, my daughters' latched locs that I maintain myself and my other nappy ramblings. My 300 Sisterlocks were installed June 13-14, 2009, and I am in love with them.

Cassidy....A little girl and her Sisterlocks

Cassidy was born in June 2004 and her Sisterlocks were born just 4 1/2 years later! We are thrilled to be able to start out her locs early, knowing that by the time she is 8 or 9 her locs will be long and healthy and she will have so many options with her natural hair. I don't think it would be fair for me to debut Cassidy here without her input, so I brought her over to the computer and she hopped up into my lap as we scrolled though all of your pictures and stories. She said to me, "All those girls have locs like me? I want mine to be down to "here" like hers, and beautiful like "hers", and I want some of them pretty earings in my hair too mama"! Thanks to all of you, Cassidy is so proud of her natural hair. Some things I will never be able to give my baby alone, because she is of African heritage and I am not. I thank God for the women that He puts into our lives to be role models for Cass, and this sisterlocking experience has filled a missing piece of our life. The experience for Cassidy and I to hang out in the city where I was the minority, so God could remind me of how Cassidy feels on most other days. The time in the salon with all the African American women in and out, chatting away, talking to her, lifting her up and encouraging me. The groups of you genuine, awesome, loving ladies to write to me and Cassidy on her blog has been priceless. She loves to read all the comments and I can see such a feeling of acceptance on her face....it's a beautiful thing.
So, all that to say that this journey is much more to us than hair alone. It's a way for me to show Cassidy how proud I am of who SHE is, how God made HER, and for her to love herself naturally. And I had no idea the love and support we would find among the loc'd family out there! A void has been filled in both our lives and we can't wait to see what the future holds, what opportunities will come, what life will bring about as Cassidy grows up loving her locs!
Locs were installed on October 9th 2008 in Philadelphia PA
Locing time was 11 1/2 hours
Loc count 398

We love to hear from you, please stop over and visit with Cassidy at her blog found here:

Praline's Passage

Hi, I'm Praline and I want to share my passage with other girls that want to go natural or wear locks!

Get Caught In The Act

Hi everyone! I never would have imagined that I’d think of anything to share with others, much less something they’d want to actually read! However, as I’ve come to realize from this wonderful group of women (and men), sharing a little piece of your life based on our mutual love of lockdom has been stimulating. Even though I’ve had my SLs for more than 6 years now, I’ve learned so much from reading others’ blogs and I’ve had useful information that helped someone else along their journey. Thanks, Maryee, for putting this all in one place!

With these my locs, I be wed

Loc Statement By Dreadlocdcutie:

I used to see people with locs and go, "man those look icky" or " man that is too much hair and I just KNOW its hot in the summer." For years, I have often asked myself what I would do with my hair if i ever got tired of wearing braids and perms and weaves. I started to see more and more people with locs and they looked beautiful, healthy, clean, and well maintained. I grew tired of holding my arms above my very thick mane of hair applying microbraid after microbraid to my already thick mane of hair. I got tired of the chemicals and then came the biggest shock..... my gyn doctor said I had to have a hysterectomy at age 28 and here I am only now 29. Yes, I have children so that was no worry but of course this was gonna bring about a change in my life and so i decided to do a complete reinvention of me inside and out. Before surgery I got the courage to go to the barber shop and have him cut all the perm off my hair and leave me with my nature texture no matter what the remaining length was. I ended up with a teeny weeny afro (TWA we call it in NY, lol) I had surgery and I received so many compliments about my short naturalism and I grew to love me even more. I got my comb coils installed on Aug 6th 2005 and only went back to learn how to wash and retwist and what to use and not use. After month 1 I have been maintaining it myself. I love to color my hair and that is my disease, lol (color in loc disease) but I have learned that over the 9 months of watching my locs change, I love them so much and the funny thing is I have had alot of people ask if I have Sisterlocks because of the shape, size and texture of my locs. I take that question as a compliment to Sisterlocks, freedom of naturalism, and freedom of spirituality. I have learned to love and adjust to my locs much like my life. Thru my loc journey I am now pleased to say that my two daughters Angelica age 12 has decided to have locs so I started her jouney with braidlocz, and my 11 yr old daughter Miya, has asked me to cut the relaxer off her ends and do traditional locs and palm roll like mine. She has been loc'd for two months thus far. So, with this my locs, I be wed the journey of love, life and spirituality and marriage to my beautiful locs.
