Urban Decay Naked Eye Shadow - Swatches for women of color

For the past few weeks, I don't know what happened but I've embarked on this new found LOVE for cosmetics. I mean I've always loved the pages of the latest mag. filled with pretty things to ooh and ahh over, but recently I've actually been moved to BUY these things. A recent purchase was that of the Urban Decay persuasion: the original Naked eyeshadow palette. It came in the mail today and I'm excited to research which colors work best on my skin.

While doing much research on whether or not I should buy this product, I looked for photos online of fellow users and didn't find one review or visual swatch picture of a person with color pigment in their skin which makes it harder for me to know how the colors show up on anything else besides white skin. No diss, I just like to get accurate results and I wasn't able to find any. So, in hopes to help someone else considering whether or not they should buy, hopefully this post will help you some.

I plan to photograph the different looks I come up with as the world turns, so stay tuned ;)

Typography

Delving deeper and deeper into discovering my passion and setting the path for my career, my researching is showing me just how important the details are for a successful package. I've always wondered about certain fonts, letters, letter order and naming and as I'm learning what really goes into it all... I'm more and more amazed by the genius of it all.

Complexity shown as pure simplicity. Large brands have really got it down in terms of type, font, color and names... the simplistic complexity of it all excites me.

And so folks... the lesson in this... no matter how bad something SEEMS, never give up and push it until the end because it ain't over until it's OVER. I'm happy K.G. didn't get kicked off cause of a bad day.

Now back to our regularly scheduled program...My Princess, Queen and Lady: Michelle Obama

Again, Congrats to Prince William and his bride Catherine. I wish them ALL the best and as much happiness with each other as their hearts can bear! BUT NOW... reality is back in order and I refuse to let anyone else overshadow Michelle Obama and all her glory. Mass media does such a good job of highlighting so many cultures and events that I myself am not really interested in. That's not to say someone else isn't, obviously there's millions of people interested in royal weddings, however, I live in America and am aware of the current affairs of this nation. No one walking on American soil has time to be so invested in the Monarchial wedding of William and Kate minus 8. well unless of course you're the media... then.... well... you know...

I felt the need to do this post not to downplay the newlyweds, but I take my responsibility as it comes and that's to keep things that are relevant in the forefront, and to me, actually to many, Michelle Obama needs to always and forever be highlighted not just for her style sense, but for who she is, what she represents and who and what she stands for. Quality and Beautiful Fashion is Mrs. Obama and I will do a post on her everyday if I have to in order to keep her relevancy alive. If people can influence a President to prove his place of birth on a birth certificate to the entire world, then what I'm doing is long overdue and really isn't even a tip of the iceberg.

With that said... check out Beyonce's new video - Move Your Body - a remake to Get Me Bodied to help fight against child obesity... apart of the MICHELLE OBAMA LET'S MOVE INITIATIVE ;)

Maybe Solange, but Cassie and Selita Ebanks for Carol's Daughter... NOT SO MUCH! by Mia Anita

C'mon Lisa, now I know you know better than this. Yes, all three women are beautiful and I applaud their accomplishments, but it's only been a few days since the spokes-three were announced and a few hours since this video dropped and black women around the country are NOT FEELING IT!

The issue with mainstream "beauty" is the lack of representation for women of color, specifically, black women. Now Carol's Daughter received a lot of respect and patronizing because finally we felt there was a line for us by us (F.U.B.U. 2000) and we felt a part and appropriately represented. Now looking at this trio, yes they all three are women of color, yes they all have great beauty teams working on them to attract the visual affect, BUT, these 3 women DO NOT represent the many grades of hair that range within the black community that are yearning for a brand that values and represents us!

A chic fresh out of a weave is not trying to hear Cassie talk about her stress troubles of wanting curly hair and being bored by her straight hair... HATED IT! That's like asking Bill Gates to speak about his desire for a yacht instead of his jet-skis and sailboat. I don't have either one, so WHY do I care?! I DON'T!

I'm interested to see the further backlash Ms. Price and her brand will get from this "bold" move. I mean where's Kelly Rowland? Where's chic from Girlfriends? Hell, where's Macy Gray? Variety is what black America is and I'm sorry but these campaign picks say nothing in relation to variety. Sadly enough, what it reads to me is a big mis-representation of the true diversity within the black community continually fed to the entire world that continues to divide our diaspora even further not just by location but through deep-seeded intra-racial ideologies.

True Love Pieces: Fashion 2010

Fall 2010 fashion is filled with what I like to call "True Love pieces." Pieces you are drawn to and truly love but you have no idea why. If someone asked me what I liked about some of the creations below, I honestly would not have an answer. It just proves you don't need a reason to like what you like... You just know.
