Loc'd Man: Jamal

So, I stumbled across this gorgeous man and his beautiful loc's on Tumblr last week. I had no idea he was a DC resident but after taking his pic and posting it on InstaGram, I quickly found out who he was. Ladies, meet 22 y/o Jamal and his 5 y/o locs. His story is under the jump so if you want to read more, click it!

1. Tell us a little about yourself? Well, I'm Jamal, 22 from DC. I went to Baltimore International College of Culinary Arts and majored in professional cooking and baking. I’m a lyricist because the term rapper wouldn't properly classify me. I'm also a poet. It's funny because I hated writing in school; I was more if a math geek.

2. How long have you been growing your locs? I've been locking for about 5 years.

3. What do you use on your hair, product wise, to maintain it? I use this mango lime gel when I get it retwisted, and Caribbean oil to keep it moisturized.

4. How often do you have to wash and re-twist your loc’s and who styles them? I wash and retwist them 1-2 times a month. I try not to do it too often because my dreads are slightly small and if they get thinner then they'd probably break off. I think id look odd with patches in my head. I just recently started going back to the girl who started them. Her name is Von.

5. What do you think about women with natural hair? Do you care if your woman is relaxed, natural or loc’d? I like women with natural hair, only if it's well kept though. I have no preference just no tracks.

6. Do you think women who choose to loc their hair are sexy? I love women with locs, they are a joy to look at. I need a woman with locs in my life.

7. What are the pros and cons about having your hair loc’d?
Pros everything! Nah, I'm kidding.  I like the attention I suppose (some days). I also like getting them pulled for personal reasons. Cons, how heavy they get and they are in the way sometimes. I end up chewing on them all the time when I'm eating

8. What made you decide to loc your hair? Have you always had hair or did you start your loc’s from “scratch.” I hated getting my hair done, fresh off the boat nappy, so I decided to loc it. I loc'd my hair from scratch little gel twist and everything.

9. What makes a woman’s hair beautiful to you? How well it's kept. If its shaved keep it shaved, loc'd then keep it done.

10. Do you have any advice for my readers who are considering loc’ing their hair? Do that it, but only if you're willing to invest the time. It's not a short process but the time does fly by.

11. Where can we find you on the web? You can find me on twitter @loverboymal, my Facebook "Jamal Bonner" not bone-r lol it’s pronounced Bon-Ner, oh and Tumblr of course "TheDrunkenEnigma" I think I still got a MySpace page lol.

Loc'd Man: Garfield

Please enjoy this weeks Loc'd Man...

1.      Tell us a little about yourself? (ex. name, age, state, school)
                                      i.      My name is Garfield. I'm a 25 year old 2nd year law student at North Carolina Central University. Born on the island of Jamaica, raised in Ft. Lauderdale
2.      How long have you been growing your locs?
                                      i.      September 2006 was my last haircut. I got my first twists done in December of that same year...so depending on what you count as the starting date, somewhere around the 4.5 year mark.
3.      What do you use on your hair, product wise, to maintain it?
                                      i.      Jamaican Mango and Lime Wax with the black top on it. It's the clear wax. They have other ones, but that's the one I use for my hair. I wash with a dandruff shampoo because my scalp is dry and sometimes gets flaky. I also use Pine Tar on my scalp. Smells terrible, but keeps my scalp healthy and helps with hair growth. I wrap it every night before I go to sleep as well.
4.      How often do you have to wash and re-twist your loc’s and who styles them?
                                      i.      At this point, maybe once every couple of months. I used to get it done more frequently when I was gainfully employed, probably once every 6 weeks back then.
5.      What do you think about women with natural hair? Do you care if your woman is relaxed, natural or loc’d?
                                      i.      I love women with natural hair. I noticed that it's becoming more popular these days and I'm all for it.
ii.      It's not a big deal to me. I mean, as long as you take care of your hair and you look good with whatever style you rocking, then I'm not really in a position to complain. I will say that I've always had a love affair with women that have neatly done locks. Probably biased with that because my hair is loc'd too.
6.      Do you think women who choose to loc their hair are sexy?
                                      i.      Hell yes! Sorry...that was a little strong. I love women with loc'd hair. I've seen women with locs and the way they style them, it's just...man...it's a beautiful sight to see.
7.      What are the pros and cons about having your hair loc’d?
                                      i.      Pros are obviously less day to day maintenance. I wrap my hair at night, I wake up in the morning, I take the wrap off and I make moves. No brushing, no greasing, none of the prep time I had to deal with back when I was rocking fades. And I like the way the look. I think it fits my personality and my look. Also, having someone else wash your hair is hands down one of the best feelings in the world. Like...I see why women always get someone else to wash their hair. It feels pretty awesome.
ii.      Cons? Summertime immediately springs to mind. These things get hot. Also, sometimes I can't get to the loctician within the requisite time, therefore, my hair tends to start looking real crazy. And the itching. Not as bad as it used to be, but every once in a while it flares up and I want to run clippers all the way through my hair. Other than that? Not much. Oh...and sitting under the dryer. Definitely not a fan of that.

8.      What made you decide to loc your hair? Have you always had hair or did you start your loc’s from “scratch.”
                                      i.      I've always wanted them, but we're Jamaican. I have Rastas in my family and I wasn't sure if it'd be offensive to my family if I grew them without taking on the entire culture. Plus, I wasn't sure of the costs, or who was going to do them. Finally, my senior year of college, I met someone who said they'd start and maintain them for me, so I got them done.
ii.      As I explained earlier, I got my last haircut in September of 2006, so I pretty much grew my hair from the lowest fade possible, to where I am right now.
9.      What makes a woman’s hair beautiful to you?
                                      i.      For women with locs, the styles they come up with can be absolutely amazing. I just think the way hair can be framed to fit someone's personality and bring out their best features can makes their hair beautiful. Also the way it smells after it's freshly washed.
10.  Do you have any advice for my readers who are considering loc’ing their hair?
                                      i.      Patience is a virtue. This is a long road, you gotta be willing to see it through to the end. Also, if a product isn't working, don't be afraid to switch up. Ask other people with locs what they use and see if it works out for you. It can take a while to find the proper products that go best with your hair, so don't be afraid to search for them.

Loc'd Man: Alex

Ok, so a day or two ago I came across a twitter page of a man with GORGEOUS HAIR, of course I had to follow him. Not only did I notice his great hair BUT he has the same name as me, Alex Smith. I thought that was awesome and I had to have him featured as the loc'd man of the week. Click the jump to read his story...

  1. Tell us a little about yourself?  My name is Alex Smith. I’m 25 years old. I live in Temple Hills, Maryland. I never went to a university, I currently work for Metro
  2. How long have you been growing your locs?  I’ve been growing my locs for a lil over 3 years.
  3. What do you use on your hair, product wise, to maintain it? When I get my hair done I use head and shoulders because I have a dry scalp. When retwisting it I use Mango and Lime locking gel.
  4. How often do you have to wash and re-twist your loc’s and who styles them?  It used to depend on what I did at my job because I used to sweat a lot due to the type of work I did and my hair would get curly at the end. But now on average I get it retwisted about every 3 weeks.
  5. What do you think about women with natural hair? Do you care if your woman is relaxed, natural or loc’d?  I love a woman who keeps her hair looking nice regardless. Whether its natural, relaxed, or locd. Ill even take a weave but it has to at least LOOK real. None of them bright ass colors and shit lol. A girl that keeps her hair looking nice is a big turn on for me.
  6. Do you think women who choose to loc their hair are sexy?  Yes I do think its sexy. But it doesn’t apply to everyone’s locs because I’ve seen some ugly dreads on some heads. If they are kept up, than yes, it’s sexy to me.
  7. What are the pros and cons about having your hair loc’d? A pro for having my hair locd is that I can basically change how I want to look depending on different occasions. I’m not limited to just one look. Cons I would have to say is that the longer it gets, the more it gets in the way sometimes and maintaining it takes a lot longer.
  8. What made you decide to loc your hair? Have you always had hair or did you start your loc’s from “scratch.” I’ve been growing my hair since July 2000. I started off with cornrows. Then I started getting individuals. After that I started getting twists all the time. After a while I got tired of getting my hair taken out, washed, and retwisted. I figured if I’m going to get twists all the time I might as well lock them. So I got my locs started off as twists in summer of 08 and I’ve been going from there ever since.
  9. What makes a woman’s hair beautiful to you? What makes a woman’s hair beautiful to me is when it smells good. I can’t stand that nasty plastic hair spray smell. As long as it looks good and smells good/great, I think it’s beautiful
  10. Do you have any advice for my readers who are considering loc’ing their hair?  If you’re going to lock your hair, just make sure u give it regular maintenance when it’s needed. I HATE seeing dreads that look all messed up for no reason.
  11. Where can we find you on the web? Im probably the only dude in the DMV that never had a FB lol. But u can find me on Twitter @AlexYouOC

Loc'd Man: Derrick

  1. Tell us a little about yourself? (ex. name, age, state, school)
Hello everyone. My name is Derrick “Napz” Mosley. I’m 25 and from Philadelphia. I attend Delaware County College studying Photography and Graphic Design.
  1. How long have you been growing your locs?
It will be 4 long yrs this May 2011.
  1. What do you use on your hair, product wise, to maintain it?
I normally leave that responsibility to my stylist. But lately she’s been telling me to use Lime Juice when I wash it. It softens my hair; plus gets that stench out that water can leave if it stays in awhile.
  1. How often do you have to wash and re-twist your loc’s and who styles them?
Mmmm! I can be impatient. So I get my hair done once every 2 months and wash it once a month.  I just like to see my new growth.
  1. What do you think about women with natural hair? Do you care if your woman is relaxed, natural or loc’d?
Not to sound deep or anything lol; but I believe it shows another level of confidence. Ladies you don’t need anything else to enhance yourself. Plus natural hair can express more of your identity and I like that.

  1. Do you think women who choose to loc their hair are sexy?
Hell yes! Nothing against any other style but women that have locs standout. They walk in with their heels and dress on; and I just say, “Damn”
  1. What are the pros and cons about having your hair loc’d?
I hate getting my hair done. And I have no use for an umbrella anymore lol.
  1. What made you decide to loc your hair? Have you always had hair or did you start your loc’s from “scratch.”
I didn’t start from scratch. I had a little fro when I started. My reasoning was a little more spiritual also. It represented me locking my flesh.

  1. What makes a woman’s hair beautiful to you?
When she captures ‘Herself.” It’s so easy to become common. Especially with me hearing women say they wear weaves because taking care of their own hair is work. I believe you’re worth the time. Plus it’s sexy because its your style. I wont see 10 other women with it.
  1. Do you have any advice for my readers who are considering loc’ing their hair?
At least try the process. It takes a little time for your hair to actually loc. So, if you change your mind; you can still stop the process in the early stage. It’s a Win, Win situation.

Loc'd Man: Jarrett

Meet Jarret, this months Loc'd Man. How GORGEOUS are his loc's?
Beautiful!

Tell us a little about yourself? (ex. name, age, state, school)
My name is Jarrett Middleton, I’m 24 years old, born n’ raised in PG County Maryland. I’m employed by C&E services of Vienna Virginia, and this is my first blog interview ever… A little nervous but hey, let’s do it!

How long have you been growing your locs?
I’ve been growing my loc’s since I was 18 years old.  Since then I’ve trimmed 3 times and probably cut about 4 inches off collectively. So it’d be longer right now, but honestly I don’t think I want my hair to  be much longer then what it is…

What do you use on your hair, product wise, to maintain it?
I use Jamaican Mango & Lime to oil my scalp. Olive Oil organic Professional Shampoo to wash it, and Loc’-set Serum to tighten them. I wash it and tighten every 3-4 weeks. I also receive hot-oil treatments 6 times a year, they help keep my roots strong and healthy.

How often do you have to wash and re-twist your loc’s and who styles them?
Well, you already know how often I wash it and twist it but my hairdressers have randomly changed over the years. When I first started, my mother maintained them, she’s actually the one who convinced me to get them! My hair routine and consistency has remained pretty much the same, I believe that  is one of the reasons my hair is still healthy and flourishing.

What do you think about women with natural hair? Do you care if your woman is relaxed, natural or loc’d?
I LOOOOVE a loc’d up woman with heels and… Lets not get into that lol. Nothing turns me on more than a woman who is comfortable with herself, whether they have natural hair or relaxed hair. Unfortunately women with natural hair styles are difficult to come by. At least in PG County… I have a theory on women with perms, but that’s a topic for another blog somewhere else on the vast population of the world wide web.

Do you think women who choose to loc their hair are sexy?
Extremely. There’s nothing sexier but I do understand that variety with hair is the spice of life.

What are the pros and cons about having your hair loc’d?
Lately I’ve been contemplating cutting my hair, just because of the simple fact that it’s just hair and it might be time for a change. I believe that’s one of the cons that many people have when their hair has reached a certain length that you’ve been satisfied with for however long you’ve had it, but the pros are limitless. It keeps me warm in the winter, it gives you a strong sense of personality and charisma. Loc’s give you a small edge that many people lack. They give you foundation and they give you a voice. People who grow loc’s are making a statement about who they are….

What made you decide to loc your hair? Have you always had hair or did you start your loc’s from “scratch.”
My mother persuaded me to do it way back when.. Now she probably wishes I never had ‘em. I actually grew my hair 2 or 3 times before I finally started my locs. At first I didn’t even want to grow them, but I’m very happy that I did. Thanks Mom!

What makes a woman’s hair beautiful to you?
Where do I start!? The texture, the smell, the feel, the diversity, the effort they put in to it. Almost everything you can think of makes womens hair beautiful. I believe a woman’s hair says a lot about who she is, whether it’s natural or not.

Do you have any advice for my readers who are considering loc’ing their hair?
Before you begin, be aware of what you want out of your hair after it’s loc’d. Understand the effort it takes to maintain them and please if you choose to loc your hair, be prepared to represent the rest of loc nation well!

Where can we find you on the web?
I’m not difficult to find at all. Follow me on Twitter @LocksNtees. E-mial me at JayMn04@gmail.com. Please feel free to ask me any questions regarding locs or life in general lol.

Thank you Alex, for giving me this opportunity!

Loc'd Man: AkinRemi

I was directed to the Remi via Twitter from one of my followers. When I saw his loc's I just had to have him on my blog. When I reached out to him he was open to the idea of being this months loc'd man and I was very excited that he agreed to the interview. His loc's are gorgeous; read his story below.
Enjoy!

  1. Tell us a little about yourself: Hello World, the name is AkinRemi Sawyerr, I’m a 29 year old Nigerian currently living in Atlanta, Ga pursuing my MBA
  1. How long have you been growing your locs? It’s been about 8 years
  1. What do you use on your hair, product wise, to maintain it? The only thing I do outside of what my locktician does is use either Mango & Lime product or Africas Best Herbal Oil to keep it moisturized
  2. How often do you have to wash and re-twist your loc’s and who styles them? My Locs don’t require that much maintenance so I get them re-twisted about every 3 months and wash it at least once a month.
  3. What do you think about women with natural hair? I think it’s a beautiful thing to see a woman with natural hair, I mean what could be better than what’s natural right?!
  4.  Do you care if your woman is relaxed, natural or loc’d? I won’t say I would care what my woman decides to do with her hair but my preference would be that she’s natural.
  5. Do you think women who choose to loc their hair are sexy? Very.
  6. What are the pros and cons about having your hair loc’d? The pros to me would be just the freedom of being yourself and not having to fit a certain conformity of society. The cons would be being mistaken to be from somewhere I’m not from, or for someone else just because I have locs.
  7. What made you decide to loc your hair? Have you always had hair or did you start your loc’s from “scratch?” Im not sure what made me decide to lock my hair I just remember I got tired of rocking the baby afro in high school so I twisted my whole head when I was bored. I happened to like the look so I ended up getting them locked professionally.
  8. What makes a woman’s hair beautiful to you? The way she takes care of it.. the full, rich texture of it.
  9. Do you have any advice for my readers who are considering loc’ing their hair? Just let it lock and grow, no need to worry about how long it will take to get long because it will never seem long enough to you Lol.
  10. Where can we find you on the web? Add me on FB.com/princeofzamundah, or @Remi_NoChaser or www.BlackOnBlackRhyme.com

Loc'd Man: AJ

Meet AJ and his GORGEOUS LOC'S!
Read his Loc story below.

Tell us a little about yourself? (ex. name, age, state, school)
My name is Aj Kimpson and I am from Clinton Maryland. Currently a senior at bowie state University, majoring in Psychology.

How long have you been growing your locs?
Growing locs for 4 years of love and hate, LOL.

What do you use on your hair, product wise, to maintain it?
The woman who does my hair uses the Jamaican mango and lime products but it is washed and conditioned with Dove’s shampoo

How often do you have to wash and re-twist your loc’s and who styles them?
My hair is for the most part washed and re-twisted every month I’ve waited longer at times but a month is the ideal time being that the grain of my hair cancels the longevity of “fresh locs.”

What do you think about women with natural hair? Do you care if your woman is relaxed, natural or loc’d?
I honestly just ask for a woman to take care of herself whether it is natural or with weave, as long as you’re presentable and not showing off damaged hair you are alright with me.

Do you think women who choose to loc their hair are sexy?
I find some woman with loc’d hair sexy, but it’s all on how you present it.

What are the pros and cons about having your hair loc’d?
The pro’s of having loc’s is being free willed and not conforming to anyone’s set rules of how I should wear my hair. I’ll get a haircut when I feel as though that’s what I want to do or any other style of hair.  The con’s are being negatively profiled with others who don’t share the same goals or morals as me, and it also gets in the way at times like showering brushing teeth and things of that sort

What made you decide to loc your hair? Have you always had hair or did you start your loc’s from “scratch?”
I was about 19 when I started my loc’s still stuck on trends and not wanted to be the last man standing with twist or corn rolls; a lot of people won’t admit that. I cut my hair down to a good start size so they would lock faster.
What makes a woman’s hair beautiful to you?
Beautiful hair stands out to me, when its noticeable and done well. I observe a lot of things and I barely miss anything so if it’s a track slipping chances are I seen it or if a girls scalp is dry I probably didn’t miss it, but everybody has bad hair days so I don’t judge the first time. As far as what’s beautiful hair, I would say anything that’s done nice and not trashy natural or permed or even the invisible part when it’s not gaping wide.

Do you have any advice for my readers who are considering loc’ing their hair?
If any readers are thinking about loc’S, ONE word patience . Do the time don’t let the time do you

Loc'd Men: Lamine

Tell us a little about yourself? (ex. name, age, state, school)
My name is LamineN’dour, 25, from Maryland, High School: attended Largo/Newport/Kennedy, College: Brown University

How long have you been growing your locs?
I’ve had my locs since senior year of HS, so I guess that makes it almost seven years now.

What do you use on your hair, product wise, to maintain it?
I don’t have too many special products or requirements when it comes to my hair. Having lived just about everywhere in this area and going to school in Rhode Island I had to make different products work. I was “blessed” with hair that locs easily lol, I could literally use olive oil or any non-flaking product from the Beauty Supply.

How often do you have to wash and re-twist your loc’s and who styles them?
4.       I wash my hair about every 3-4 weeks, re-twisting I get lazy with that at times, plus I don’t really like my hair freshly twisted, so I would say retwisted every 8 weeks or so lol. Stylists vary from mom, mysister, my girl, myself or I will train a girl at the drop of a dime if she’s willing.

What do you think about women with natural hair? Do you care if your woman is relaxed, natural or loc’d? I think it’s a great idea to for women to have natural hair; my mother has always worn her hair in natural styles. When it comes to my woman I truly don’t care whatever the look is, it just has to be maintained and be a good fit for them, because I would be honest if it wasn't.

Do you think women who choose to loc their hair are sexy?
I think a woman who has locs CAN be sexy, I don’t think a hairstyle alone deems someone sexy.
7.       The pros of having locs are that its natural, its liberating to me. As far as cons, locs carry a stigma with them-people attribute them to affecting job offers, and profiling- but I’m a rebel and I like that part. Think whatever you want, I’m not worried.

What made you loc your hair?
8.       I loc’d my hair because my mom had dreads,I had cornrows and braids like everyone else from the “Iverson era” lol, but I became bored and it was tiring always getting my hair braided. So, I had hair but when starting my locs I trimmed them to about an inch thinking that was the only way.

What makes a woman's hair beautiful to you?
What makes a woman’s hair beautiful to me…..uhhmm I don’t really know. I have never thought to myself, ‘wow, she has really beautiful hair!’ Honestly it would only catch my attention if something was awry. However I have seen some wonderful locs on women and thought ‘she has nice locs’ because I understand and can appreciate what care it takes.

Do you have any advice for those who are considering loc'ing their hair?
If you want  to loc your hair, go for it! Just understand that it’s not an overnight thing, and if you look around it’s not so unique anymore, so make sure that’s really what you want to do.”

Where can we find you on the web?
You can find me fooling around on Twitter (@lndour)or with my crew DYDC (dylifestyle.tumblr.com) we do a few things around the city.

Loc'd Men: Deo

Meet Deo. This weeks Loc'd man.
Read his story below.

Tell us a little about yourself? (ex. name, age, state, school)
My name is DeAngelo Wright. I am 21 year old college student attending Prince Georges Community College in MD.

How long have you been growing your locs?
I have been growing my locs for a year now.

What do you use on your hair, product wise, to maintain it?
I usually use beeswax to retwist/style my dreads.

How often do you have to wash and re-twist your loc’s and who styles them?
I get my hair washed every three weeks and a friend of mine retwists them.

What do you think about women with natural hair? Do you care if your woman is relaxed, natural or loc’d?
I love women with natural hair is every way. A lot of women hide behind weave now days. So, to me, it’s good to see women who are wearing their hair natural.

Do you think women who choose to loc their hair are sexy?
Yea I do, only the ones that can really pull it off though.

What are the pros and cons about having your hair loc’d?
One good thing about getting locs is that you don’t have to get your hair done that often. Dreads are much easier to have compared to twists and cornrows but once you loc your hair there is no going back.

What made you decide to loc your hair? Have you always had hair or did you start your loc’s from “scratch?”
I decided to loc my hair because that was the style I wanted before I chose to cut my hair. I also wondered what it was like to have locs, so I tried it. I grew my hair for 6 years before loc’ing.

What makes a woman’s hair beautiful to you?
The texture and how she “rocks” her hair along with keeping it healthy.

Do you have any advice for my readers who are considering loc’ing their hair? If you want to do it, go for it. Find a routine schedule on when you can get your hair done and go from there. Also find ONE person who does your hair.

Loc'd Men: Avante "Boooogie" Davis

I thought to myself  last week, why not do something new? Something fresh? Something FUN and interesting that will make my readers FLOCK to the "Loc'd Men" posts EVERY Friday. Soooooo, here it is, EVERY Friday I am going to try my BEST to post a new Loc'd Man of the week. I know I feature a lot of women and curls but I thought  it would be great to feature some men and their natural hair as well. See below for today's FIRST "Loc'd Man" of the week...

  1. Tell us a little about yourself? (ex. name, age, state, school)
My name is Avante Davis but most know me as Boooogie (with 4 O’s) or @boooogiebetch on twitter. I am a 22 years old Senior Majoring in Fashion Merchandising at Morgan State University in Baltimore Maryland. I am originally from Capitol Heights, MD.

  1. How long have you been growing your locs?
I’ve began locking my hair since my senior year of high school in 2005 but I had hair before then so I haven’t had an actual haircut since about 2002-2003.

  1. What do you use on your hair, product wise, to maintain it?
I use a brand called “Rasta Locks Twists” Resistant Formula Locking Gel, Tingle Shampoo, and Conditioner.

  1. How often do you have to wash and re-twist your loc’s and who styles them?
This may sound a little dirty but I swear my dreads never stink. I only wash my hair about once a month and get it re-twisted every month to two months. My girlfriend does my hair now but my friend from school used to do my hair.

  1. What do you think about women with natural hair? Do you care if your woman is relaxed, natural or loc’d?
I love natural hair and a woman that can maintain her hair in its natural state. My mother taught me growing up that if a woman can’t keep up her hair she probably doesn’t keep up her body and hygiene. So, a woman with well managed hair is a must for me. I don’t care if a woman doesn’t have natural hair or if she wears it relaxed with weave down to her ankles; as long as it looks well kept and if it is fake I want it to “fool me.” I do like loc’s on females but by no means is it a must for a girl to have loc’s if she’s natural.

  1. Do you think women who choose to loc their hair are sexy?
I think a woman’s choice to grow their locs is courageous and commendable; being how woman are portrayed to have long lustrous bone straight hair like a Barbie doll or how woman in entertainment world wear fake hair down their backs. I think that influence’s woman to do the same for the “in” look in today’s society. I think it’s a break from the norm and is beautiful in that aspect but I don’t think every woman that chooses to grow dreads is sexy for the mere fact they have them.

  1. What are the pros and cons about having your hair loc’d?
Pros would be not really worrying about how my hair is looking all the time. I pretty much go months looking rough before its time to maintain them again. A con would be that I get asked do I smoke everywhere I go and when I say I don’t people automatically say “but you have dreads”.

  1. What made you decide to loc your hair? Have you always had hair or did you start your loc’s from “scratch.”
One of my high school English teachers was real heavy in afro-centrism, black empowerment, self-love and historic black anthology. She also had locs and gave me a book to read on locs and their history. Through reading this book that I can’t seem to remember the specific name of right now taught me that locs in the biblical time were a sign of royalty and courage only worn by Kings and their warriors. I thought this was interesting and started my loc’ing journey. I have always had hair and didn’t exactly start from scratch but it wasn’t much length in the beginning.

  1. What makes a woman’s hair beautiful to you?
What makes a woman’s hair beautiful is how her hair falls, the fullness, her confidence and a sort of air a woman has after they get their hair done no matter how long, short, curly or straight their hair is. It is all beautiful to me, well-managed and beautiful.

  1. Do you have any advice for my readers who are considering loc’ing their hair?
Don’t be afraid of the ugly short stage. It builds character, lol. No one likes the beginning stages of locs. Mine were full of “side show bob” jokes,  lol.

  1. Where can we find you on the web?
Most likely on twitter; @boooogiebetch or my blog www.boooogie.blogspot.com I have a facebook and a vimeo page as well but you’ll find that somewhere on twitter or my blog.
