In the weekend I watched
A Single Man which I’d been wanting to see for a while.
These are the reasons why:
It’s starring Colin Firth
and Julianne Moore
and Nicholas Hoult
and Matthew Goode. I love them all!
And it’s the directorial debut of Tom Ford! (By the way, he had to finance the whole thing himself, because no one’s going to give a fashion designer $7 million to have a go at filmmaking.)
Plus, it has won multiple awards and is praised by the critics.

Despite my high expectations, I was not disappointed. In fact, I enjoyed
A Single Man immensely. It’s so incredibly artistic. Almost any shot would make a beautiful photo. The colour palette shifts are especially clever and not at all over the top as you might expect. The camera work, the production design, the score, the dialogue and the acting are all amazing. The plot is perhaps the weakest link, but when everything else is so brilliantly executed, you hardly notice that not a whole lot is going on.

The film is serious and slightly sad, but in a meaningful, not a depressing way.
A real truffle of a movie, after which I couldn’t help but wonder why I’ve wasted so much time watching fast food films with no substance or value. Should definitely change my diet from now on.

This treat really stroked my senses and fed my soul.
