21 facts about me

I got the idea to write a list of things about me from Haus of Lili. But right now I only managed to come up with 21. Here they are:
  1. I’m 21 years old.
  2. I was born in Tallinn, Estonia.
  3. Growing up, I was always the shortest one so I’m still getting used to the fact that I’m actually average height now (168cm/5'6'' is average! Loads of people are shorter than me. Really).
  4. I like how my name is pronounced differently depending on the language spoken. My favourite is the way the French say ‘Hélène’.
  5. According to my parents, the first thing I wanted to be when I grew up was “the one who makes adverts”. I don’t remember that myself. But I do remember wanting to be a nursery school teacher, a singer, an actor, a flight attendant, a tram driver, an artist, a florist, a fashion designer, a writer, a translator, a photographer, a jewellery designer etc. Right now I’m back to writer. And pretty certain about it.
  6. I’m a bit of a control freak. E.g. I need to be the one who holds the remote.
  7. In the end of May I’m moving out of the flat in Tartu that I’ve been living in since autumn 2008 and moving back into my room at my parents’ house. Whoa, that sounds so sad. It’s not permanent! In fact, on June 6 I’ll go to France and will stay there for four weeks learning French and getting to know loads of (hopefully) interesting people from around the world. Last summer I did that (read: had the time of my life) in Nice, this year it’s Chambéry. Can’t wait! But then in July I’ll return and spend the next three months in Tallinn. In October (or probably already in the end of September) I’ll go to England to study at the University of Warwick. Throwing the last two years of uni away. Back to square one. Swapping Economics and Business Administration for English Literature and Creative Writing. Not the most practical choice, I’ll admit. But swapping a world top 600 university for a world top 60 university on the other hand is not so bad, eh? Neither is following your dream and passion.
  8. I’m not afraid of spiders or snakes or insects or rodents or heights or tight spaces.
  9. But I’m afraid of embarrassing myself in public and of being judged. And clowns and mascots, a bit. But mostly I just hate them.
  10. If plastic surgery was free, safe, painless, and you were guaranteed to get exactly what you want then I’d definitely give it a go. But as it’s not any of those things, I’m currently not interested.
  11. I passed my driving test the first time.
  12. I don’t watch scary movies. And I don’t get why anyone would want to be scared.
  13. Confidence and certain arrogance turn me on.
  14. Stupidity and ignorance turn me off.
  15. I don’t like sports.
  16. But I’m highly competitive, so I love a game of tennis (or almost any other ballgame) with my mates. Provided I win. Joking. Kind of.
  17. I want to have a wedding. Not so sure about the marriage bit, to be honest. But a huge fancy wedding with the perfect flowers and food and music and the most beautiful white gown ever – yes, please!
  18. I have a ton of pet peeves. It’s very easy to annoy me.
  19. I don’t like pineapples, honey or olives.
  20. My favourite number is 1. Why be anything less than number one?
  21. I’m a sceptic. I believe in science. And myself. And that’s about it.
